This course will explore the cultural, economic, political, religious, and historical backgrounds of various world areas. Critical thinking, writing, and research skills will be employed along with a special emphasis on visual information. A solid map skill component is included. Juniors study the history, growth, and development of the United States from colonial times to the present day position as a super power. The course teaches skills in economics and geography as it stresses the social, cultural, religious, political, and technological growth and development of the people of the United States. Special emphasis is given to the cultural heritage of the various ethnic groups in our country. The course fulfills State of California requirements.

CIVICS/ECONOMICS (P)

This course will integrate the economic, political, and legal aspects of American society to give senior students a broad overview of how these institutions affect our lives today. Economic, political, and legal systems of other world powers will be compared with the United States. Emphasis will be placed on the United States citizen’s role, rights, and responsibilities within these systems. This course fulfills the State of California requirements.

This course will offer a basic introduction to the study of psychology. It will study child, adolescent, and adult development. Through reflection on human behavior, it will help the student learn about himself/herself and friends and family. This course is a foundation for the peer counseling course. This course is approved as a UC/CSU college preparatory elective.
